What is Autumn Blessings?

Autumn Blessings is one of our quarterly Smiles for Seniors card drives. As the leaves begin to change and the days grow shorter, our Autumn Blessings card drive focuses on bringing comfort, connection, and kindness to seniors in our community.

Through handmade cards and heartfelt messages, we remind residents that they are remembered, appreciated, and valued.

Your cards and handmade cards become a burst of color and connection.

Let’s bring paper hugs to Seniors. Each card really make a difference.

Our goal: 500 cards and handmade cards delivered to local senior communities.

Learn more about our mission and metrics for the Serenity Smiles for Seniors program. We’ve teamed up with the Bring Smiles to Seniors non-profit organization to deliver seasonal cards to seniors living in assisted living centers.

Important Card Guidelines

All levels of cards are appreciated. Maybe you are having the kiddos help you… maybe you are making cards from a kit… maybe it is your first time making a card… or maybe you are a hobbiest…. every single card is from the heart and will be cherished.
Handmade cards are preferred, but printed cards are ok too
Leave room somewhere on the back of the card for a Bring Smiles to Seniors sticker to be added. (approx 1 1/2″ circle)
Provide envelopes if you can. If not, envelopes will be provided.
Keep the card outside the envelope for both ease of processing and ease of opening by the Senior
Avoid mentioning specific holidays unless requested
As a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator – I love Stampin’ Up! With that said, there is no product restriction for this community service activity. Please feel free to use any product that inspires you to create and connect with Seniors!

Stamping, Writing and Signing on the Inside

For card themes and images, think autumn! Autumn Colors. Leaves. Trees. Sunsets. Pumpkins.
For sentiments think gratitude, everyday joy. encouragement, friendship, sunflowers and nature, Thinking of You.
For design, think large and simple. Clean and simple layouts work great. Easy fun-folds. Large focal images and sentiments. High contrast.
The cards are most fun to receive if they are stamped and decorated on the inside too.
Leave room for signatures, and ideally sign the cards if you can. Guidelines and suggestions are below.
Sometimes the hardest part is knowing what to say. Here are suggested messages for starters:
- “Thinking of you and sending warm autumn wishes.”
- “Wishing you a season filled with comfort, peace, and happy moments.”
- “I hope this little card reminds you how much you are appreciated.”
- “May your days be filled with warmth, friendship, and reasons to smile.”
- “Sending autumn blessings and happy thoughts your way.”
If you sign the card, residents love it when you include your name and location. Here are a few suggestions for signing off….

How to Participate – Contribute Finished Cards

Message me with a brief note about your desire to participate. (I keep loose track of pledges so I can plan accordingly)
Make as many handmade cards as you’d like
(Optionally) Write a warm message inside, remembering to sign your name and city.
Mail or drop off by the deadline. Contact me for the delivery address.
Message me to let me know your package is on the way!

How to Participate – Volunteer In-Person

My home in Roseville, Ca is open every Friday evening from 6pm-9pm Pacific Time.
- Exceptions are pretty rare: I won’t host on evenings when I’m traveling, sick, or if I have another type of event to attend or host.
I also love to make accommodations for a time that is more convenient for you, if Friday nights don’t work.
Message me to RSVP, to arrange a time, and for me to give you the address, etc.
All supplies and instructions are provided.
This makes for a great. super affordable “girls night out” or “family night out”!

Volunteering with Smiles for Seniors led locally by Lela Meinke has been such a rewarding experience
Every handmade card we create is more than just paper and art — it’s a small act of kindness that makes a big difference in the lives of seniors. Knowing that something as simple as a heartfelt message can bring comfort, joy, and a smile to someone’s face is truly special.
It is so easy to volunteers Lela host events locally and provides everything you need-even if you have never made a handmade card-you will love this especially if you participate in delivering the cards as you will receive as much joy and gratification as the seniors do.
If you aren’t local, you can still volunteer as I do. I simply send my completed cards to Lela by the dates needed.
Being part of this group has shown me the power of community and compassion. Together, we’re spreading warmth and human connection, one card at a time. I’m grateful to contribute to a mission that reminds seniors they are valued and loved.

More Than a Craft; A Lifeline of Compassion
I have known Lela Meinke for several years and have always admired her kind heart. However, I didn’t truly realize the power of her work with Bring Smiles to Seniors until my own father, who was struggling with loneliness in assisted living, became a recipient of her card initiative. Neither Lela nor I realized at the time that she had hand-delivered a beautiful card to him. Finding out and seeing the smile on his face when he shared his card with me brought me to tears. While my dad was lucky to have family visit often, so many residents have no one.

This experience was so moving that it inspired me to get involved myself. I’ve since had the wonderful opportunity to help Lela create cards for her other giving campaigns, including her Valentines Day project and her ‘500 Cards for Seniors’ drive. Seeing the passion, she puts into every project first-hand has only deepened my respect for her.

Serenity Stamping is more than a craft; it is a lifeline of compassion that ensures our seniors know they are seen and cared for. Thank you to Lela and all her wonderful volunteers for the smiles you bring and the hearts you touch.
