Take Me To The Ocean – Whale Shaker-Card

Take me to the ocean. Seriously. I need the feeling of fresh air and the sound of the sea. Not just yet though. Today’s whale shaker card and my t-shirt will just have to suffice. (I did get to take my dog Nikki for a walk today though. Today is the first day the air quality has been GREEN GREEN GREEN in a long time. And I think we are going for a hike tomorrow. YAYYY!)

Here are the steps to create your own basic shaker card. As always, you can find a link to a helpful video and a link to the supplies list at the end of the post.

Create the base. I used a Thick Whisper White A2 card. Decorate the front of the card, which will serve as the background to the shaker element. In the video, I used a piece of Whale Done Designer Series Paper (DSP) which looks like the ocean.

Create the shaker frame. For the whale card, I used a pre-made frame that came in the August Hero Paper Pumpkin kit. (As of this writing, I do have a few Pumpkin kits left.) I used the double-sided foam frame mat, and I adhered a rectangular piece of Whale Done DSP to the front. I adhered a pre-cut window sheet to the back. Then I adhered tear-n-tape to the window sheet.

Back side of the foam frame, with window sheet in place!

DID YOU KNOW? If you don’t have a pre-made shaker frame, you can create your own frame easily with double-sided foam tape. And if you don’t have a pre-cut window sheet, you can cut your own from our 12×12 window sheets.

Place the sequins. For the whale card, place your Whale of a Time sequins where you want them. The sequins are super cute and match the whale theme perfectly. They look like little pieces of the ocean. In this photo, I am showing the Paper Pumpkin sequins. For both cards, I placed the sequins in the center of the card.

Adhere the frame. Take off the tear-n-tape, and adhere the frame carefully to the card base.

Decorate the front. Decorate the front as desired. I used the Whale Punch to punch a whale from the DSP, and then I added a sweet teeny tiny little bow with a mini-glue dot. I stamped the sentiment in Pretty Peacock and adhered it in the upper left corner to balance out the design.

The card is done and ready to send to someone who is a BIG DEAL. There are lots of people doing BIG DEAL things right now. Let’s let them know!
